In March 2015, the Federal Republic of Germany committed itself to „Implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030)“ of the United Nations (UN). The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe, BBK) is the national focal point responsible for implementing the Sendai Framework.
On 13 July 2022, the Federal Government adopted the German Strategy for Strengthening Resilience to Disasters (Resilience Strategy). The aim of this strategy is to improve the protection of people and their livelihoods and to strengthen the community’s resilience and adaptability to disasters in the long term.
